I did a 7 night inside passage cruise a few years ago from Seattle through the passage and back to Victoria. I'd recommend it. Two excursions I'd recommend are the narrow gauge railway trip down the White Pass at Skagway and a whale watching excursion. I'd also recommend spending a few days in both Seattle and Victoria (but be prepared for rain). Take some cold weather clothes as it can be chilly, even in summer.
You can also do Victoria to Seaward but be prepared for a 125 mile trip from Seaward to the nearest international airport at Anchorage and flights can be a bit pricey.
Royal Caribbean and Celebrity are offering good deals at the moment.

The Norwegian fjord cruise I did was stunning, probably up there with some of the scenery in Alaska/Vancouver, and a lot cheaper I'd imagine too. Plus the bonus of very few yanks.

Westside, fair enough then, but these cruises did tend to attract the older crowd in my day, maybe they have introduced a more livelier entertainment package that appeals to the younger crowd?

At what age does it become acceptable to consider going on a cruise?
Like to do one in later life, though appreciate that aged 42 isn't the time to go on anything other than a booze cruise as yet.
None of that hot one for me either, all about the worlds scenery and an Alaskan one must be fantastic.

you should film a documentary/reality show there. I'm not sure the 873 we have so far are enough
there are now more cameramen than snowflakes in Alaska

Haven't done the Alaska cruise have only done the Norwegian fjord cruises, but by all accounts it's magnificent scenery which makes the big ship that your on, look like a duck pond boat, oh and if you're looking for parties and a load of young people, forget it, most of the passengers will be toward the upper age range
Have fun
Oh and Celebrity is a good cruise line

Yes, my only cruise. Did the inside passage, sailing from and back to Vancouver, in early September 2015. Highly recommend it. Vancouver is a great city to boot, worth 2 - 3 nights before or after cruise.
Mind you did get a free drinks package, as a booking inducement. Suggest you look for one of these when booking.
Used the Celebrity line, who I found excellent.
Watch the cost of trips/events/tours ashore, they can be pricey. Some of the cheaper ones are brilliant value.

Far Cough might be your man.
Been to Alaska, but not on a cruise, although I'd imagine there'd be some stunning scenery.
